Inverness - the "Highland Capital" is a busy, modern & exciting city with a real buzz. Looking for the perfect Highland destination for short breaks, late deals and holidays in the Scottish Highlands? Then this is the place to be, purely because of the so many things to see and do not only in Inverness itself but also in the surrounding area.

Firstly, Inverness itself. The Highland Capital is the UK’s fastest growing city, split into two halves by the River Ness, which runs through the centre of Inverness giving the city centre an open feel, with riverside walks, together with wide open spaces. Many of myhotelbreak hotels are located on the riverside.

Inverness is also the main shopping centre in the Highlands with people travelling from as far away at the Scottish Islands to shop in Inverness. The Indoor Eastgate Shopping Mall has all the main branded stores, together with local boutiques and craft shops. Inverness Agua-dome is a lively place to go for all the family, famous for the near vertical Nessie Slide! There are a host of more cultural things to see and do in the city including 19th century Inverness Cathedral and Inverness Art Gallery & Museum.

In the evening Inverness is great for a night out, with a lively music scene and Eden Court Theatre has a full yearly programme of theatre, plays and concerts.
Inverness is located on the Moray Coast and recommend joining one of the cruise boats which take s you out into the Firth, with almost a guaranteed sighting of the resident pod of dolphins.

Around and about Inverness there is there is plenty to see & do. In fact you’ll be spoilt for choice. Visit Battle of Culloden site and Visitor Centre, where the last Battle was fought on UK soil in 1745, ending Bonnie Prince Charlie’s claim to the Thrown. It is a fascinating, yet eerie place to be. 4 miles south of Inverness lies the most famous loch in the world – Loch Ness, 27 miles long and as deep as the mountains are high – Resident to it’s famous monster “Nessie”. There are cruises out on to the loch, so take your camera, just in case!! Stop off at Urquhart Castle on the shoreline of Loch Ness and where many sightings of the Monster have allegedly been seen. Further south lies Fort Augustus and then Fort William.

You can catch the train from Inverness on what has been described as “One of the most beautiful Railway Journeys in the World “ ( Michael Palin). This 2+hour journey takes you to Kyle of Lochalsh and then you can go over the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

And there is so much more…. To the North takes you on to the Black Isle and Strathpeffer. The A9 takes you north to Wick and John O Groats and there is the train journey too to Thurso. There are castles and gardens waiting to be visited like Cawdor Castle (Macbeth fame) & Brodie Castle & Gardens. To the east towards Nairn and the Moray Coast line. To the south there are whisky distilleries , such as Dalwhinnie and Tomatin. Step back in time and visit Stone Age ruins, standing stones and circles.

If you are looking for something quieter, it’s a great area for the outdoors, for walks to see wild life, gardens, forests and beaches. In addition, there are 10 golf course all within a 30 minute drive from Inverness city centre.
